系列作品《离开时开始》,由五组形式不同但均有关联性的独立作品统一构成。

该作品的创作发端缘起于艺术家某日在驻地附近海鲜市场内闲逛,意外瞥见一条濒死的石斑鱼,

遂于店主交涉待该鱼死后取至驻地创作完成。

艺术家以死去的普通“石斑鱼”作为符号,指涉一种对于世间万物均在轮转的表达。

在体验、观察、记录、传播、遗忘、消失,并屡次重复此过程的运转机制中,作为“人”的在场性被显露。

通过对于拓印过程中所刻意控制的痕迹深浅及物象虚实可以窥见到艺术家对于我们日常中所常被提及到的关于个体主观的记忆经历、描述忘却所做的象征性比拟。在位于顶部所悬挂的绘画则是暗指对于个体记忆所进行的再次投射分化,它也为我们在群体记忆中的转述与描摹提供了物料化佐证。在对产自朝阳附近的远古鱼化石与来自朝暮海边所捡拾的珊瑚进行对仗布局,显现了艺术家对于宏观的地理地貌进行的轮转嵌套。而在位于冷峻金属上对于海南蕨类植物的移植,更是对于“附生植物”这一在植物语境下“副本”概念的直接挪用。《离开时开始》在材料媒介方面,运用了构建万物所轮转的五元素,而该系列作品在整体展陈方面,运用了海、山、天的三层空间关系进行布局。

《离开时开始》表达了以起点沦为终点,而终点又更迭为起点的轮转注解。意指“生命”在无常的时间之浪中被反复冲刷浸泡而飘摇动荡……在更多时候,我们是依赖于去建立副本的短暂意义来抵御虚无的恒久性。

The series of works “Start When Leaving”  consists of five independent works with different forms but all related.
The creation of this work began when the artist was strolling in a seafood market near their residence and accidentally caught a dying grouper,
So he negotiated with the shop owner to take the fish to the residence after it died and complete the creation.
The artist uses a dead ordinary “grouper” as a symbol, referring to an expression of the rotation of all things in the world.
In the operation mechanism of experiencing, observing, recording, spreading, forgetting, disappearing, and repeatedly repeating this process, the presence as a “human” is revealed.
By deliberately controlling the depth of traces and the reality of objects during the printing process, we can glimpse the artist’s symbolic comparison of subjective memory experiences and descriptions of forgetfulness that are often mentioned in our daily lives. The painting hanging at the top implies a re projection and differentiation of individual memory, providing material evidence for our retelling and depiction in collective memory. The arrangement of ancient fish fossils from the vicinity of Chaoyang and corals picked up from the Chaomu seaside shows the artist’s rotation and nesting of macro geographical landforms. And the transplantation of Hainan fern plants on cold metal is a direct appropriation of the concept of “epiphytes” in the context of plants. In terms of material and media, ‘Start When Leaving’ utilizes the five elements that construct the rotation of all things, while in terms of overall exhibition, the series employs a three-layer spatial relationship of sea, mountain, and sky for layout.
The phrase ‘Start When Leaving’ expresses a rotational annotation where the starting point becomes the ending point, and the ending point alternates as the starting point. It means that ‘life’ is repeatedly washed and soaked in the impermanent waves of time, swaying and turbulent… More often than not, we rely on the temporary meaning of building replicas to resist the permanence of nothingness.

    Zhao-Moon Art Museum

    Elsewhere

    “Elsewhere Culture” is a diverse experimental project and cultural platform. We aim to activate various spaces and environments through a nomadic and formless approach, moving fluidly between art and other fields. Exploring the limitless possibilities of creativity. Our focus is on a wide range of creative practices, including but not limited to art, writing, film, performance, sound, body, architecture, and any other form of artistic expression. This project was initiated by poet Yuer and curator Chengxi. Currently, we are launching five key projects: Elsewhere Theatre, Elsewhere Exhibition, Elsewhere Screenings, Elsewhere Poetry, and Elsewhere Experiment.
