视觉艺术家、音乐人、鼓/打击乐
出生于上海,生活工作于北京。
他的创作并不力图以“新”的技术生产“新”的景观,而是基于原教旨主义式的“手工”化实践与体验,以“再创作”的方式植根于“传统”的基本面。其视听觉范畴的创作语言涉及:架上绘画、逐帧动画、器乐作曲、声音观念及行为。
在绘画语言的探索层面,他摒弃了以时间作为轴心的线性工作逻辑;而将事物的因果性打散并置入画面,试图在二维图像上建立一种形而上的抽象秩序(或无序)。这种有机的任意性有异于算法生成的节奏,艺术家强调应当使颜料自身通过一种类似“回忆”的自发性运动来产生形象,从而屏蔽理性的干扰。
在音乐语言的探索层面,他作为作曲人、制作人、演奏者等身份以唱片出版的形式进行个人或团体性的合作与出品。已出版专辑有《无常定》、《如履薄冰》、《念完这首秩序的诗》、《发梦茱莉》等…2024年凭借专辑《无常定》入围第35届台湾金曲奖“最佳演奏类专辑”奖提名,并获第2届腾讯 · 浪潮音乐大赏“最佳爵士专辑”奖。

Liu Pi
Visualartist、Musician、Drum/Percussionist
Born in Shanghai, currently lives and works in Beijing.
His creative endeavors do not seek to produce “new” landscapes using “new” technologies, but rather are grounded in fundamentalist “handcrafted” practices and experiences, employing “re-creation” methods that draw upon the fundamentals of “tradition”. His creative language across visual and auditory domains encompasses: easel painting、frame-by-frame animation、instrumental composition、sound concepts and performance art.
In the exploration of painting language level, he slam the door in time as the linear axis of logic; He breaks up the causality of things and puts them into the picture, trying to establish a metaphysical abstract order (or disorder) on the two-dimensional image. This organic arbitrariness is different from the rhythm generated by the algorithm. The artist emphasizes that the pigment itself should generate images through a spontaneous movement similar to “memory”, so as to shield the interference of reason.
In the exploration of music language level, he assumes roles such as composer、producer and performer, engaging in individual or group collaborations and productions through record publishing.Published albums include 《The Impermanence》、《Walking on Thin Ice》、《Finsh Reading The Poem of Order》、《DreamingJulie》etc…In 2024, his album 《The Impermanence》 was nominated for the “Best Performance Album” at the 35th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards, and he won the “Best Jazz Album” award at the 2nd Tencent · Wave Music Awards.
